Jamaica Pond: in daylight

Jamaica Pond is one of the best places to see the vivid reds and pinks of the summertime sunsets (here). Many people come to the pond to watch the wildlife, go fishing, walk the dog or take a sailing boat on the water.  The closeness of the pond to my house in Boston means that it makes a great place to run to and use the track that lines the water’s edge.

The pond is part of the Emerald Necklace, a series of green open spaces that run through Boston, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (who also designed Central Park in New York).

The pond is the largest body of fresh water in Boston, expanding 68 acres in size and 50m at the deepest point (source: Wikipedia).  Sailing and rowing boats can be hired from the boat house pavilion on the East side of the pond. As part of the ‘Summer on Sundays‘ season, live music and movies are screened on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.

Jamaica Pond is located on the borders of Brookline and Jamaica Plain neighbourhoods; nearest T-stop is Brookline Village (map).
